Hello,
I've had a G40V since last May and since day one it hasn't sounded right!
With the controls set for clean sounds, there is a great lack of presence. Everything is muddy, and the bass response is very poor. What treble I do hear is harsh, if I pick hard enough.
When the amp is set for distorted sounds, it gets VERY mushy.
I've done alot of things to try to make this amp sound good. I've added a Weber VST speaker, Sovtek 12AX7LPS's, and Svetlana 6l6's. Nothing has helped.
I also added an effects loop, and by doing this I've managed to narrow the problem down to the power amp section. When I send the preamp signal of the G40V into my Delta Blues as a slave amp, it sounds incredibly good. The top end is nice and crisp, and there's bass for days (I can't set the bass on the G40V above 3)! When I reverse the order, slaving the G40V's power amp to the Delta Blues's preamp, I get the same sick sound- no bass, muffled highs, very mushy dead uninspiring sound!
Help! What is going on with this amp? As the warranty is up and I've modified it, I'm very reluctant to get it serviced. And since I've already sunk some money into it, I don't want to buy any more parts that aren't going to fix anything!
Thanks in advance,
-Keith
