well, after a couple of months of fooling around, i think i got a pretty good configuration. 12at7 in the socket next to the big tubes, 12au7 in the middle, and 12ax7 on the end. BUT! i've lost a lot of volume, even plugged into a 2-10 extension cabinet. i'm pretty well decided to go with more watts. i tried a mesa 60 set up like the pig 60, and it has the balls. going to try a pig 60 next but when i can afford it i don't know. us harp players have to get that gain down, that's all there is to it! this 40 sounds so good until it's up against a couple of guitars and drums/bass and then it's lost. it mikes into a p.a. nice too, but sometimes i can't mess with that. my vote is either get your pals to play quieter (yeh right!) or mike it off. or a bigger amp. with gain control.
